Career
He played football as a boy while at Saint Henry"s College Kitovu. In July 2015, he signed a five-year contract with the Danish Supaliga club, SønderjyskE Fodbold. Okwi played for Ugandan Super League club South Carolina Villa before joining Tanzanian team Simba South Carolina (U.S.) for United States$40,000.
In January 2013, Tunisian team Étoile du Sahel signed Okwi for a Tanzania record transfer fee of United States$300,000.
The team, however, failed to pay the fee to Simba South Carolina (U.S.) He was then cleared by Fédération internationale de football association"s Player Status Committee in December 2013 to return to South Carolina Villa although the clearance was changed two months later so he could play for Young Africans South Carolina (U.S.), despite Simba South Carolina (U.S.)"s protests. Okwi rejoined Simba South Carolina (U.S.) in August 2014 under a six-month contract, explaining that Young Africans South Carolina (U.S.) had terminated his contract by failing to pay the United States$50,000 owed to him.
Okwi refused to play the last five games of the 2013-2014 season for Young Africans South Carolina (U.S.) because of the payment controversy. Young Africans South Carolina (U.S.) vigorously protested the transfer to Simba South Carolina (U.S.) and claimed that the contract was still in effect.
The Tanzania Football Federation rejected that claim in September 2014.
In July 2015, SønderjyskE Fodbold signed Okwi under a five-year contract, with the consent of Simba South Carolina (U.S.), that will last until 2020. Okwi first represented Uganda at senior level in 2009. He was the second top scorer at the 2010 CECAFA Cup, scoring an four goals in five matches.
The following year at the 2011 CECAFA Cup, he scored five goals and was joint top scorer alongside Rwanda"s Meddie Kagere and their captain Olivier Karekezi.
