In 1951, she enrolled at the California School of Fine Arts, where she studied under David Park and Clyfford Still.

She earned a Bachelor from Stanford University in 1948. After graduation, she continued her studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Fontainbleau, the Académie Julian, and at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. She is best known for her whimsical portraits of animals, as exemplified by Chow, a hand colored drypoint from 1985 in the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Artist
