Ferreira is from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. She learned dance at Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro. She made her stage debut performing Louisiana Locandiera at Teatro Serrador in Rio de Janeiro, on February 28, 1941.
She formed her own company three years later.
In 1962, she tested for a part in the Brazilian production of My Fair Lady. She then received leads in Hello Dolly and Manitoba of Louisiana Mancha.
