He is currently the Senior White House Correspondent for Columbia Broadcasting System, reporting regularly for Columbia Broadcasting System This Morning as well as for the Columbia Broadcasting System Evening News. Plante covered the 1965 voting rights marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama as a national correspondent for Columbia Broadcasting System News. He also served several tours of duty in South Vietnam covering the Vietnam War, the first in 1964 and the last in 1975 during the Fall of Saigon at the end of the war.
He anchored Columbia Broadcasting System Sunday Night News from 1988 to 1995.
