She has an older brother, Jason born in 1977. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications and journalism from California State University, Fresno in 2001. Hitt started her journalism career at KVEW in the Tri-Cities, Washington area from 2002 until departing back for California in early 2003.
Hitt worked as a morning news anchor and reporter for KMPH in Fresno, California from 2003 until 2005.
Next, she went to KOVR in Sacramento, California from 2005 until 2010 where she did anchoring and reporting assignments. Then, she made her way to Los Angeles’ KTLA from 2010 till her departure in 2012, whilst being an anchor and reporter.
In 2012, she reached national prominence by joining American Broadcasting Company News.
