He is Chief Executive Officer of a Washington, District of Columbia-based consulting firm and chairman of a nonprofit alliance focused on innovative solutions for issues with the nation"s infrastructure. In 1997 he obtained a law degree from Northern Kentucky University. McCown served in Operation Desert Storm as a naval aviator and holds an honorary commission of Rear Admiral in the United States Maritime Administration.
From 2003-2007 McCown served in several leadership roles during both terms of George West. Bush"s presidency in Washington District of Columbia He was a senior executive at the United States Department of Transportation until 2007.
He served as the first general counsel of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, where he was responsible for legal oversight of the nation"s trucking, motor coach, moving industry and North American Free Trade Agreement for the United States. Department of Transportation. He advocated for stronger truck and bus safety regulations.
He was appointed to the position by Transportation Secretary, Norman Y. Mineta (Doctorate-California). He became the first acting administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
McCown currently serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nouveau, a Washington, District of Columbia-based consulting and advisory firm as well Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance for Innovation and Infrastructure, a national non-profit organization focused on developing solutions to the nation"s most pressing infrastructure issues.
He serves on the Salmon P. Chase College of Law"s Board of Visitors, and is Company-Chair of the American Bar Association"s Transportation Committee of the Administrative and Regulatory Law Section. Additionally, McCown serves as a Program Council Member for the Warsaw Security Forum in Warsaw, Poland. He previously served on the Southlake, Texas Planning & Zoning Commission.
