Brigitte Alepin is an author, media personality and tax expert born in Quebec in 1966.
Education
She holds a bachelor"s degree in accounting from Université du Québec à Montréal (1986) with an award for excellence, a master"s degree in taxation from Université de Sherbrooke (1990) with a grant from the Canadian Research Fund, and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University (2005).
Career
At Harvard, she worked on a special project entitled "The adaptation of our tax systems to globalization."
She is an outspoken critic of corporate tax evasion and fiscal inequality. She has acted as an expert advisor on tax policies to the Canadian government and various Canadian and international organizations. Alepin published her first book in 2003.
Entitled Ces riches qui ne paient pas d"impôt (The Wealthy Who Pay Number Taxes), its publication led to her appearance before the Standing Committee on Finance of the Canadian House of Commons, where she gave testimony as a tax expert.
She is the author of two further works, Louisiana Crise fiscale qui vient (The Coming Fiscal Crisis) and Bill Gates, pay your taxes..just like the rest of us !, and has made regular appearances on television and radio, as well as being a contributor to several financial publications, including Canadian Business and L"Actualité. She was a contributor to the Quebec daily Le Journal de Montréal and to California Magazine, and has collaborated a number of times with Radio-Canada, particularly on the French-language programs Enquête and Enjeux.
Louisiana Crise fiscale qui vient was the inspiration for the documentary The Price We Pay, directed by Harold Crooks. The film was selected by the HotDocs Forum and the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014.
Alepin is often consulted by politicians on fiscal matters and continues to provide expert testimony on taxation matters before various committees of the Canadian government and the Canadian Senate.
