He was educated at Uppingham and Exeter College, Oxford, where he graduated with an Master of Arts and Doctor of Divinity He also earned an Master of Arts from the University of Cape Town.
Cornish was ordained in 1870. After a curacy at Street George’s, Bristol Cornish held incumbencies at Street Peter and Street Paul, South Petherton and Street Mary Redcliffe, Bristol. In 1899, he was appointed Bishop of Grahamstown, a post he held for 16 years.
He died on 14 July 1936.
