The Berlin-based firm of Rob Krier and Christoph Kohl Architekten is among the representatives of a movement in architecture and urban design that builds on the traditions of the European city. They use traditional methods to create contemporary reconstruction of the urban fabric. Since their participation in the construction and coordination of Kirchsteigfeld, a planning project near Potsdam, Germany, that was built according to their urban design proposal, Rob Krier and Christoph Kohl have been responsible for the design of planning projects in different European countries, with a focus on the Netherlands: De Resident in The Hague (The Netherlands), Noorderhof in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Meander in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), the new town of Brandevoort near Helmond (The Netherlands), Slot Haverleij, ’s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) and Citadel Broekpolder in Beverwijk-Heemskerk (The Netherlands).
