After graduating high school, Chris played for the Cleveland Junior. Barons during the 2005-2006 season.
In 58 regular-season games, Chris posted 17 points, which included 13 assists.
The following season the Junior Barons team moved down to Columbus, Ohio and became a part of the USHL and continued to play as the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets. While playing for the Jackets in 2006, Chris ranked third on the team with 25 points in 50 regular-season games.
He had the team"s best for assists with 21, which included 10 while on the power play. Chris was an honorable mention for the USHL defenseman of the week five times.
Chris committed to and started playing hockey for the Ohio State University in the fall of 2007.
In his sophomore season on October 25, 2008, he scored his first goal at collegiate level against the University of Denver. He later played his 100th game on December 11, 2009 against Miami University. In his four years playing for Ohio State, Chris Reed played a total of 150 games.
He scored a total of 4 goals with 34 assists.
Overall, Chris’s plus-minus was +16. He also received many honors as he played for Ohio State.
He received the CCHA Honorable mention All-Rookie team choice, he was a three-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete, two-time Academic Big Ten selection, and he was a finalist for the CCHA’s Scholar-Athlete of the year in 2010 and 2011. His junior-year teammates voted him as the Joseph West. Smith Best Defensive Player.
Professional
On the completion of his collegiate career, Chris signed with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL in the summer prior to the 2011-2012 season.
After making his professional debut on October 22, 2011 against the Reading Royals, he received his first assist against the Trenton Titans on November 12, 2011 and scored his first professional goal against the Greenville Road Warriors on December 3, 2011. However, Chris’s season was cut short due to a concussion at the end of January. He was on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.
On August 23, 2012, Reed was re-signed by the Cyclones to a one-year contract.
He scored his first goal of his second season on October 26, 2012, against the Elmira Jackals. During the 2012-2013 season, Chris was called up to play his first American Hockey League game with Springfield Falcons on December 16, 2012.
After a single game with the Falcons, Reed was returned to the ECHL before on January 12, 2013, Chris received his second try-out in the AHL with the Houston aeronautics Reed went scoreless in 4 games with the Aeros before he was returned to the Cyclones.
On February 4, 2013, Reed"s journeyman season continued when he was signed to his third try-out contract in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters.
In playing against the Hershey Bears on February 5, 2013, Reed became the first Solon native to play for the Cleveland-based Monsters.
