Born in Carrigadrohid, County , O'Sullivan first excelled at Gaelic football in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-four when he first linked up with the junior team. He made his senior debut in the 1950 championship.
O'Sullivan went on to play a key role for the team over the next few years, however, it was a period of provincial dominance for Kerry. He was a Munster runner-up on two occasions. Throughout his career O'Sullivan made 5 championship appearances for.
He retired from senior inter-county football following the conclusion of the 1953 championship.
