Career
He played in the Football League for Barrow, Crewe Alexandra, Darlington, N ottinghamshire County and Stoke. Brown played for Dundee Saint Joseph"s, Dundee (in two spells), Greenock Morton and Peebles Rovers. During the war he guested for Rangers, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham and Portuguese Vale.
After the war he joined Second Division side Stoke and he made an instant impact, scoring twice on his debut against Rotherham County on 1 November 1919.
He then scored six goals in four matches in December as Brown went on to become top-scorer in 1919-1920 with 13. Stoke had a poor 1920-1921 campaign, almost being relegated, and Brown only managed four goals in 20 matches before he was sold to N ottinghamshire County.
He scored seven goals in 14 Second Division games at Meadow Lane in the 1921-1922 campaign. He returned to Scotland to play for First Division club Kilmarnock in the 1922-1923 season.
He left Rugby Park and returned to England with Darlington.
His goalscoring tally left him as the division"s top-scorer for two consecutive seasons. He then departed Feethams, and played for Crewe Alexandra. He scored 21 goals in 37 Third Division North appearances in the 1926-1927 season, in a brief stay at Gresty Road.
He then spent the 1927-1928 season with Barrow, before retiring to become honorary reserve team manager of former club Darlington.
