Career
Martin prepped at Muir High School in Pasadena, California and was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in baseball, but elected to play football. Martin played college football at Michigan State University where he was a four-year letterman (1992-1995). He began as a wide receiver, then switched to cornerback.
He was all-conference in 1994.
Martin played on the practice squad of the Saint Louis Rams in the National Football League (1996), in NFL Europe for the Scottish Claymores (1997) and the Arena Football League"s Texas Terror (1998-1999). Martin began his coaching career as a high school coach in 1999 at Monrovia for two years and then at his alma mater Muir in 2001.
He then coached at the junior college level for five years. Two at Pasadena City College (2001-2002) and three at Mountain.
San Antonio College (Mountain SAC) in Walnut (2003-2005).
He was a graduate secondary assistant coach at University of Southern California (2006-2007),
In December 2008, he was hired by new head coach Steve Sarkisian of the Washington Huskies to coach the secondary in Seattle. After three seasons with the Huskies, Martin returned to the Los Angeles area when he was hired by new University of California, Los Angeles Bruins head coach Jim Mora in December 2011 to be the defensive backs coach.
