(Kyo having delivered Kyoshiro's message, he turns his att...)
Kyo having delivered Kyoshiro's message, he turns his attention to Sasuke, whom he recognizes as the Brave with a constant killing intent towards him during the Ieyasu incident in books 4 and 5. Sasuke picks a fight with Kyo, not only to prove whether Kyo is worthy of being guided through the Sea of Trees but also to see which one of their Muramasa swords is the famed 'Tenro' (Heaven Wolf) said to have slain 10,000 or even 100,000. Sasuke's sword cracks as Kyo's and his clash, and Sasuke begins to lead them through the Sea of Trees. Later, as Kyo naps, Yuya and Sasuke encounter Bikara, one of the Generals, whom Sasuke fights until Kyo wakes up to resume their battle from 4 years ago at Sekigahara. Elsewhere, Benitora and Okuni encounter Akira, who begins to fight Benitora. During the fight, Benitora expresses his disdain for his father and his unwillingness to try to rule the earth under the Tokugawa. Rather than sacrifice one for the good of many, Benitora intends to try his hardest to protect those important to him. His intensity at the moment of this declaration causes Akira's sword to waver and Akira to decide to spare Benitora's life for the moment. Bikara and Kyo continue to fight. Sasuke is so impressed by Bikara's speed that he predicts Kyo will lose. Bikara wonders where the strength Kyo had 4 years ago went to. Kyo appears to be defeated by Bikara, but as the time since Kyo started fighting reaches 10 minutes, Kyo reawakens in the strengthened state Yuya first witnessed in book 6. This true 'Demon Eyes Kyo' with the crimson cross on his back easily outclasses even Bikara's fastest speed. Bikara is saved from death by Shindara, however. Sasuke recognizes Shindara, who offers to fight Kyo next, as the 'Undying Shindara' that Yukimura warned him to not try to fight. Kyo promises to kill both Shindara and Bikara, but first Shindara scolds Bikara for going off to fight on his own and reveals that the Generals now know the location of the real cave where Kyo's body is. With this information, the Generals are supposed to head straight to the location, causing them to prepare to leave. Shindara surrounds Kyo in flame while Antera distracts Sasuke, giving the Generals the time to kidnap Yuya and leave. Shortly afterwards, Benitora and Okuni finally meet up with Kyo and Sasuke. That night, as Kyo and the others worry about Yuya and wonder about the way to go to find the body, Yukimura shows up. Yukimura is convinced that the Generals will keep their hostage safe, and he also reveals he knows where Yuya is right now, the Hades Plain (Yomotsu Hirasaka), the path to the Crimson Lotus Pure Land (Guren Jodo) where Kyo's body is hidden. Hades Plain looks like a beautiful field of flowers, but is in truth a deadly place. Kyo's group doesn't venture far from the camp, however, before they encounter two new Generals, Haira and Makora. The dark haired, older-looking Haira fights Yukimura while the masked, light-haired Makora sits back and watches.

(Mibu Kyoshiro, a traveling medicine peddler, is mistaken ...)
Mibu Kyoshiro, a traveling medicine peddler, is mistaken for the legendary killer, Onime-no-Kyo, by the beautiful bounty hunter Shiina Yuya. Yuya soon realizes her mistake but captures him anyway since there's small bounty on his head. The two arrive in a village ravaged by the Bantouji brothers and Yuya decides to capture them in for their bounties. That night Kyoshiro discovers Yuya's true motivation: to find the man who killed her brother. During their battle with the Bantouji brothers, Kyoshiro is brutally beaten. But once he draws his sword, he becomes cocky, his gaze deadly and his eyes blood red. Kyoshiro taunts the brothers telling them he will kill them all effortlessly. He has become Onime-no-Kyo! Kyo defeats the Bantouji brothers easily and turns to the last person alive: Yuya. Kyo decides to spare her so that she may hunt for her brother's killer, but promises to kill her if she fails. Once he puts his sword away, the spirit of Kyoshiro returns to his body. As Kyoshiro and Yuya head west, they meet Okuni Izumono, a miko (Buddhist nun) who claims to be a former love of Onime-no-Kyo. She is fleeing from a group of rebels after discovering their secret hideout. After running afoul with the local police, Kyoshiro and his two friends camp out under the stars. Yuya sneaks off to find the rebel hideout and steal their treasure. Kyoshiro wakes to find that both Yuya and Okuni are gone. After rescuing a young girl from a pack of wolves he ends up in the secret rebel village, where he discovers Yuya, safe and sound. A mob from the nearby town arrives and attacks the village. They are lead by Jimon, a blonde samurai who explains how Kyo humiliated him at the battle of Sekigahara. Angered by the attack on the peaceful rebels, and Jimon's attempt to kill the young girl he had saved, Kyoshiro draws his sword saying only, "He is coming...".

(Chapet One: Yukimura is familiar with Bontenmaru and know...)
Chapet One: Yukimura is familiar with Bontenmaru and knows him by his other name, "Dokuganryuu Masamune" who was a famous commander of the Oou, but has now joined the Shiseiten! Bontenmaru/Masumune seems very familiar with Akira as well as Kyo, and is able to identify him even in his new body. He challenges him in a quick fight and comments that he's grown much weaker. He then proposes him to join his side. Chapter Two: Masamune joined the dark side because they were far more stronger than the weak troupes he led. Kyo rejects Masamune's offer and they battle! Kyo still refuses to join the Shiseiten, determined to get back his body on his own! We find that Kyo's sword was forged by Toushou Muramasa, thus Masamune was asked to take Kyo with him, because Muramasa is calling for him, because he's dying from an illness. Chapter Three: Bontenmaru has now joined up with the gang as they continue on their journey to the capital. Actually they're also off to see Muramasa. Apparenlty, Muramasa also lost his body and is using someone else's at the moment. Much like Kyo. Just as they arrive at Muramasa's house, a flood of mysterious ninja/killers pop out of the ground and the guys jump to battle. Thanks to Kyo and Bontenmaru being total monsters, they kill them all off. We find that the mutated ninjas they killed were underlings of the Mibu family! Muramasa finally appears, and he is a cutey! Chapter Four: We find that Muramasa was, at one time, Kyo's teacher! Apparently, he has the power to read people's minds (well, only the "surface" stuff). When Muramasa and Kyo finally get alone, he tells Kyo that he must teach him how to perfect the full power of the Mumyoujinpuuyuu. But first he asks Kyo what all that hatred inside of him is, and the answer is that Kyo is willing to crush anyone who gets in his way of becoming strongest! A few more ninja henchmen pop up but Kyo blows them away, and then Shinrei shows up. Kyo and him have battled in the past, but Shinrei is much more confident that he is stronger than Kyo. By far. Plus, everyone seems to be turning out to be members of the Mibu family. Like crazy! (so that makes...Muramasa, Kyoushirou, and Kyo). Chapter Five: We got much into the history of the Mibu family: Shinrei used to be a soldier of the Mibu soldier to protect the leader which was known as the "Red King", but the position is currently vacant. Way long ago the Mibu soldier controlled the land, but the structure started to crumble. All starting when Kyo crushed Nobunaga. They plan on killing off Ieyasu so that they may rule with the "Hand of God". Just then, Yukimura and Tora show up, only to be made fools of by Shinrei's outstanding speed and skill. And the they're also going to take Kyo's body, which pisses off Kyo enough to dive into a fight. And it looks like Kyo's going to lose...Chapter Six: This chapter focuses on Yukimura's past. Way back when, when the land was fraught with war, a battle broke out between Tokugawa family and Sanada family. In order to gain the power of the Uesugi house, the eldest son, Yukimura was offered as a hostage. However, he was allowed to return home by the leader of the Uesugi. For being raised as a samurai with incredible power, Yukimura questions the grounds on which he will be fighting. His female friend (wife?) , Mizuki, tells him to quit his being a samurai because it just doesn't suit him. Just after he promises her that he'll protect her and her/their children she is jumped in the night by the Tokugawa-gun, and the entire town is set on fire. The Sanada family is unable to beat the ambush. The usually calm Yukimura snaps and runs off to try and protect his loved ones in the town. Chapter Seven: Yukimura finds Mizuki just before she is going to be gang-raped by some Tokugawa-gun members, and she gives him her father's precious sword. However, the huge gash on her back is too great and she dies in his arms. Just as more of the Tokugawa come to attack him, the sleeping "dragon" within Yukimura wakes up and blows them all away. He then leaves the battered village, vowing to become stronger and keep Miyuki's promise. Flashback ends and everyone is touched. Yaaaay.

(Kyoshiro and Jimon, the blonde samurai, square off for ba...)
Kyoshiro and Jimon, the blonde samurai, square off for battle. Jimon beats him mercilessly, waiting for Kyo to appear. Jimon reveals that he killed 108 people, in order to perfect his technique, and that Kyo will be the 109th. He continues to beat Kyoshiro until, finally, the sword is drawn, and Kyo's personality appears (and he's in a bad mood). As Okuni excitedly watches from a cliff above, Jimon demonstrates his deadly quick Flying Sparrow technique. Kyo is unimpressed and suggests a drawing match. After a tense stand-off, swords are drawn, and Jimon is killed. Okuni reappears, happy for the return of Kyo. She has an obvious thirst for blood and Kyo accuses her of leading Jimon and the other attackers to the hidden rebel village. Okuni's power is hinted at when after threatening to kill Kyo, she floats away. With the remaining villagers now safe, Kyoshiro and Yuya take to the road again, where they meet a town full of hungry orphans, including a pickpocket named Kouta and his young sister. Kyoshiro convinces Kouta that he should give up his life of crime, but Kazura, the beautiful pickpocket ringleader, will not hear it and has Kouta beaten. Luckily, Yuya arrives just in time to save him. After killing all of Kazura's gang members, the two women engage in a tense battle, from which Yuya barely emerges victorious. Kyoshiro and Yuya leave the children, and head on to the next village, where they save a tiny elderly woman from some thugs. She invites them to stay with her in her mountain home beneath a stunning cherry blossom tree. She tells them that the thugs work for the dreaded Three Color Gang, who are trying to push her off her mountain. As if on cue, one of the Three, White Crow, appears to give the old woman three days to clear out. But, when Yuya learns that the Kidou family is after the treasure that is said to be hidden somewhere in the mountain, she offers to be the old woman's personal bodyguard. As Kyoshiro collects wood for the elderly woman, he is attacked by Black Scorpion, the second of the Three Colors Gang. He falls off a waterfall, and is left for dead by Black Scorpion. Kyoshiro is then saved by a mysterious figure that turns out to be Red Tiger, the last member of the Three Color Gang. As they square off, Red Tiger demonstrates why he has earned the nickname, "Shadow Man."

(Yuya confronts Kyo about the death of her brother, asking...)
Yuya confronts Kyo about the death of her brother, asking whether or not he or Kyoshiro killed him. Kyo tells Yuya to ask Kyoshiro when they find Kyo's body. In the meanwhile, a new member of the 12 God Generals is introduced. This androgynous member is named Basara, and claims Akira is a backstabber and could betray the group at any time. The group of Generals heads to meet their master, "That Man," who is "rehabilitating" in the Sea of Trees, drinking blood from the corpses of those who inhabit the Sea. "That Man" is excited about a reunion with Kyo, and looks forward to Kyo's blood. Elsewhere, Okuni and Benitora encounter yet another new General, Gihyo (Jesting Leopard), who trained under the same master as Benitora. Gihyo repeatedly uses a certain trick to lull away Benitora's consciousness, and move around to a good attack position. Benitora sees through the trick however, wounds himself to prevent himself from losing consciousness, and kills Gihyo. Kyo and Yuya then find a cave which they believe may house Kyo's body. Kyo however realizes that they aren't deep enough in the Sea of Trees to have found the cave, and is able to call out the General trying to trick them, the Marionette Master, Kubira. Kubira continues having his marionettes attack Kyo, knowing that Kyo can only fight for 10 minutes. When the 10 minutes are up, however, Kyo suddenly erupts with newfound power. As Kubira is quickly defeated and Kyo loses consciousness, Yuya wonders if the man she just saw was not Kyo but Kyoshiro. Fishing above a river, Yukimura tells two of his 10 Braves of his intention to go help Kyo, not wanting Kyo to die before he can kill him. Yukimura sends one of his Braves, Sasuke, ahead to the Sea of Trees, as he goes to a house where Sakuya, who can read the stars, awaits. Kubira, still alive, is killed for knowing too much by Akira, who claims that he is the only one who knows everything about Kyo. Afterwards, Yuya meets Sasuke Sarutobi, who wields the same Murumasa blade as Kyo, and also has similar eyes. As Sasuke reveals he was raised in the Sea of Trees, Yuya wonders if his similarities to Kyo mean that Kyo was raised there as well. Just then, Kyo awakens with a message from Kyoshiro..." Goodbye, Yuya-san."
