Alex Frayne is an Adelaide based Australian film director whose films have received attention locally and abroad.
Education
He studied Film at the Flinders University of South Australia, where he met long-time collaborator and cinematographer Nick Matthews. Alex Frayne graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1996, moving straight into production with a series of short films from 1998-2004.
Career
He then directed, edited, and produced his debut feature film Modern Love in 2006. lieutenant screened at over 30 world festivals, secured theatrical releases in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and was released on Digital Video Disc via the Accent Underground label. In the United States the film was released by Seminal Films.
Variety Magazine critic Richard Kuipers hailed the film:
"..unlike anything else in the Australian genre catalogue" destined foreign."cult status.."
He plays Jazz piano and holds of one of the world"s largest rare jazz fusion and funk music collections.
He also plays competitive Texas Hold"em Poker and tennis. He is based at the South Australian Film Corporation, and is due to direct his second feature film Texas Dolly, in mid-2011.
