Witt graduated from the Marlborough School for Girls in Los Angeles and the University of Southern California where she majored in journalism and international relations.
Witt joined the network in January 1999. Witt"s father is Doctor Charles B. Witt, Doctor of Medicine, a noted thoracic surgeon in Los Los Angeles Witt first served as a field producer for the Today Show in Burbank, California.
Her first on-air job was at KCBA in Salinas, California.
She later worked for KCBS-television, National Broadcasting Company, LA, California-television, KABC-television, each of which are located in communities adjacent to Los Los Angeles She served as a reporter at KCBA from 1990–1992 and WNYW-television from 1996–1998.
Since 1999, Witt has been with Microsoft and National Broadcasting Company serving as the anchor for Weekends with Alex Witt and contributing anchor for Microsoft and National Broadcasting Company Live. On November 11, 2008, Witt joined former congressman (and actor) Fred Grandy as co-host of the series Daily Cafe on Retirement Living television
Witt is married to television producer Bill Sorensen.
Witt has noted on-air that she is related to George Washington.
