In 1977 Mamut finished Moscow gymnasium #17, in 1982 graduated from Moscow State University, Faculty of Law.
In 1990 together with Andrey Gloriozonov, Mamut founded "Business and Cooperation” Bank, that was renamed in 1991 into Commercial Bank “Imperial”. The bank was founded to service companies in the field of fuel and energy. Its biggest clients were “Gazprom” and “Lukoil”.
In 1990 Mamut founded “ALM-Consulting” law firm (ALM abbreviated after Mamut’s name) and served as Managing Partner there throughout 1990-1993.

“Praktika” Theatre is considered one of the major contemporary drama theaters in Russia. 2008 — Mamut’s “A&NN” Investment Company bought 100% of shares of “Evroset” company from Evgeniy Chichvarkin and Timur Artemiev. In October 2008 49,9% shares of the company were sold to “VimpelCom” Company.
2008 — Owner of the “Pioneer” Movie Theatre.
Following renovations, “Pioneer” relaunched as a movie theatre for intellectual and art house films with two screening rooms and updated sound system. 2009 — Shareholder of 61% of shares of the Spar Moscow Holding.
2009 — Owner of the “Torpedo-ZIL” football club (purchased at a symbolical $1). 2009 — Chairman of the Board of Trustees and main Benefactor of Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design.
The Institute aims to change the landscape of Russian cities.
Strelka offers a tuition-free English-language educational program on urban studies and city development for postgraduates, hosts an open public program of educational events and entertainment, and publishes books on architecture, design and the city via Strelka Press Publishing House.
