Career
Levin is perhaps best known for his lyrics for Badad (Hebrew: בדד. "Alone"), a popular Hebrew song, famous for its performance by Zohar Argov and the subject of many subsequent renditions. A prolific and praised translator of fiction, science, television and film, Levin was responsible for the Hebrew translations of some modern classics, such as
Norman Mailer"s The Deer Park (Hebrew: גן הצבאים) and The Executioner"s Song (Hebrew: שירת התליין);
Herman Wouk"s The Caine Mutiny (Hebrew: המרד על הקיין) and War and Remembrance (Hebrew: מלחמה וזכרון);
John le Carré"s A Small Town in Germany (Hebrew: עיר קטנה בגרמניה), A Perfect Spy (Hebrew: מרגל מושלם), and The Russia House (Hebrew: בית רוסיה).
Levine also translated several landmark works in the social sciences, including B. F. Skinner’s About Behaviorism (Hebrew: ביהייביוריזם) and Beyond Freedom and Dignity (Hebrew: מעבר לחרות ולכבוד).
Leonard Broom and Philip Selznick’s Sociology (Hebrew: סוציולוגיה- יסודות, עקרונות, גישות) and Richard Lazarus’s Adjustment and Personality (Hebrew: אישיות והסתגלות). Levin"s first name, Amasai, is a rare name of biblical origins.
He also published under the pseudonyms Amos Yahav (Hebrew: עמוס יהב) and Avisar Levin (Hebrew: אבישר לוין ).
