Since his retirement from top level swimming his sporting activities have been mainly restricted to online gaming. He enjoys the occasional game of Super Smash Brothers Melee, even though Kevin Sullivan is much better at it (and much better looking, as well).
Although he has difficulty in understanding the rules, MacKay is said to be a competent Madden 99 player. Despite his retirement he still sports impressive triceps.
He has been known to work out as many as two times a month to stay in peak physical condition.
