He has experience working in several different countries throughout Asia. Ord played semi-professionally for several years as a central defender in non-league football deciding to take up coaching at an early age when it became apparent that he wouldn"t be offered a full-time contract. He held several roles in youth development and after emigrating to Perth in 2006 worked at the Washington NTC which has produced many players who have gone on to represent Australia.
He developed an Academy with Yangon United as owner Tay Za created the first full-time youth program in Myanmar before moving back to Western Australia alongside Gareth Naven with Perth Glory in the National Youth League.
BEC Tero Sasana He totally rebuilt the squad and on the opening day of season handed debuts to 5 teenagers, including Chanathip Songkrasin and Tanaboon Kesarat who both then quickly established themselves as a National Team players. After losing the opening 2 games it was widely reported that General Manager Robert Procureur would bring his compatriot Rene Desaeyere in to replace him.
However Ord led his young team to 6 straight victories equalling the all time TPL record for consecutive wins, earning him the Manager of the month awards for April and May 2012. Thailand National Team Head Coach Winfried Schafer quickly offered Ord a role as analyst for the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup campaign where they made the final.
Muang Thong United During the tournament he was approached by reigning Thai Premier League Champions Muangthong United to join their coaching staff for the 2013 season.
Led by former Serbian international Slavisa Jokanovic the club had gone the previous season unbeaten and the clubs youngsters were unable to make the breakthrough to the first team Using the European model the club created B team consisting of under 21 players to compete against professionals in Division 2 and again he found success leading them to a runners-up finish missing out on the title by only one point. Perth Glory On 20 December 2013 he returned to Australia with Perth Glory as assistant coach to Kenny Lowe, after a player revolt had led to the sacking of Alistair Edwards.
At the end of the 2013/14 season owner Tony Sage rewarded them with an additional two-year contract.
A big rebuilding job followed and fortunes improved as they went on to reach the final of the Future Farmers of America Cup in November 2014 losing 1-0 to Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium.It was a feat they then repeated in 2015 beating Melbourne City 3-1 in the semi final to set up a meeting in the final at AAMI Park with Melbourne Victory which they lost 2-0.
