After emigrating to Canada in childhood, she spent her youth in Vancouver, British Columbia. At the beginning of her musical career, she joined the cast of the original Vancouver production of The Ecstasy of Rita Joe. In 1984, she guest-starred on the popular children"s television program Sharon, Lois & Bram"s Elephant Show (Season 1: Episode 4 - "Friendship").
On the episode she sang "Just One Voice" with Sharon, Lois & Bram.
Mortifee currently lives on Cortes Island, British Columbia. 1984: nominee, Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year.
1991: appointed member of the Order of Canada.
