Career
Gibson began his collegiate football career at Hinds Junior College in Jackson, Mississippi. After two successful seasons at Hinds, he was recruited by universities in Mississippi, as well as Nebraska, Illinois, Cincinnati, and Murray State (Kentucky). He decided to play for Coach Mike Gottfried and his Wide Tackle Six defense at the University of Cincinnati.
Gibson learned from Defensive Coordinator Ron Zook (Current Head Coach, University of Illinois), and to this day, Antonio tells people that, “the things that Ron Zook taught me in college carried me through the NFL. I never had a position coach better than Ron Zook.”
Gibson played defensive back at the University of Cincinnati during the 1981 and 1982 football seasons.
Gibson"s professional career included three seasons with the USFL"s Philadelphia Stars, two of them Championship seasons. When the league folded, he signed with the New Orleans Saints in 1986 and was the starting Safety until retiring in 1993.
His Head Coach during his entire professional career was Jim Mora Senior His Position Coach was longtime NFL Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers.
Gibson also ended his career after playing with the Dallas Cowboys (1990) and the Birmingham Fire of NFL Europe (1992).
