Katz graduated from Adrian College with a bachelor"s degree in English & Education in 1972, later becoming an associate professor for the college.
Katz graduated from Adrian College with a bachelor"s degree in English & Education in 1972, later becoming an associate professor for the college.
She also serves as an associate professor in the Personal Financial Planning Division at Texas Technical University. She later worked as an English teacher before developing a financial practice. In 1990, she moved to Miami, merging her practice with those of Harold Evensky and Peter Brown to form Evensky, Brown & Katz, where she previously served as president and is now chairwoman.
(The firm became Evensky & Katz in 2004, after the retirement of Peter Brown)
She was awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters (honoris causa) from Adrian College in 2001.
Katz has made a number of personal appearances to organizations and has been a guest speaker at sponsored events in several countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, England, India, Ireland, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, and South Africa. In granting the award, Faculty of Public Affairs cited Katz and Evensky"s work "educating current and future advisers through teaching, internship coordination and writing books"

Katz was selected as one of Investment Advisor"s 25 Most Influential People in the Financial Planning Industry in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008. She has also been named one of Medical Economics" 150 Best Financial Advisers for Doctors three times.
Katz was the first female Director of a United States Rotary Club.
