(The LOGO computer language was expressly designed to teac...)
The LOGO computer language was expressly designed to teach mathematics. This book presents a LOGO-based curriculum for teaching functions and equations, and logic. The teaching sequences also show teachers the rich mathematical and pedagogical possibilities inherent in LOGO. The concepts of computer programming form a natural foundation for teaching mathematics. They can be used to develop a new kind of mathematics presentation, greatly improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning. LOGO was expressly designed to realize this kind of approach. Using LOGO, the authors have developed mathematics curricula based on computer programming languages. They have designed file extended LOGO teaching sequences ranging over a variety of mathematical subjects, levels of difficulty, and mathematical and pedagogic styles. This book presents two of the LOGO teaching sequences: for functions and equations, and logic. Included are background materials describing the LOGO language and its usage.
