Andre Bjerke wrote several volumes of poetry, and translated the poetry and plays of many foreign writers such as Rainer Marie Rilke and Percy Bysse Shelley, and William Shakespeare and Molière. He also wrote a few detective novels under the pseudonym Bernhard Borge.
The publication of Syngende jord and Fakkeltog, Bjerke’s first two works of poetry, was received extremely well in his native Norway, where people immediately started drawing comparisons with Herman Wildenvey.
