Author text books and essays on economic problems.
Work has been concentrated on the international
division of labour in all its aspects: trade, trade policy, world trade order, structural changes, and adjustment problems. Most publications can be attributed to applied theory, among them the Doctor of Philosophy thesis (1966) which elaborated intra-industrial trade between industrial countries. In most articles, political conclusions have been drawn from the findings.
Thus, the concept of a trade ajustment policy has been worked out, development strategies (inward and outward looking strategies) have been commented upon, export restrictions have been dealt with, and problems of reshaping the economic order have been discussed. Because applied theory and political considerations necessitate a firm theoretical basis, some articles and most of the textbooks focus on theoretical issues. Some of these issues are not directly linked with international trade.
However, the corresponding publications cannot be judged as deflections from the main topic of interest. In view of the general interdependence of all economic affairs, analyses of foreign trade have to shored up by a general economic theory. Recent articles concentrate on the increasing degree of international economic interconnectedness and the evolving integrated world economy in which independent national economic policy can hardly be pursued.
