He was educated at Kiev State University where he took Master of Laws (Honours), and at King"s College London, where he took an Master of Philisophy in International Law with a thesis entitled The settlement of territorial and boundary disputes in central Africa. He also holds an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Sierra Leone, and is an Honorary Bencher of Lincoln"s Inn.
