Way back in the hills of Newton County, AR, 13-year-old James Carl Hefley, the child prodigy of Big Creek Valley, graduated from high school. Insisting he was now grown up. 'Fesser, as he was called, enrolled in Arkansas Tech. Arriving in the "big city" of Russellville in the spring of 1944, the naive country boy is enthralled by his first experience in a new world of electric lights, telephones, movies, and indoor plumbing. The wartime mood on campus is recreated along with the joy of victories won. Returning veterans provide 'Fesser with many lessons on "the real world." Virtue does triumph at last in this fast-moving tale of yesteryear. (bio) James C. Hefley's Way Back in the Hills Book 2: 'Fesser Goes to College is the long-awaited sequel to his best-selling book, Way Back in the Hills. 'Fesser received a B.A., M.Div., a Ph.D from the University of Tennessee, and an honorary doctor of letters.
