Jacob Balgley was a painter and graphic artist. Famous art critics noted the creative nature of the artist’s works, which was turning more and more towards expressionism. His works were not forgotten even after his premature death. Jacob Balgley’s works were many times exhibited at prestigious galleries of France and other countries.
Education
As a teenager Jacob went to St.Petersburg where he tried to study medicine, but his passion for arts prevailed and he moved to Odessa to study architecture. From 1911 Balgley lived in Paris and continued to study architecture, as well as philosophy and history. In 1920 he started his studies at the School of Decorative Arts.
Career
From the very beginning of his life in Paris Ja.Balgley, along with his studies of painting, made a number of graphic works. Some of them were used as illustrations for a collection of fables published in 1918 by F.Bernoir. In 1924 the artist’s several engravings and paintings were acquired by the Luxembourg Museum. At the same year the artist’s personal exhibition took place. In 1925 21etchings were included into the album Incomplete Sketches.
