I.Navumenka worked at the Institute of Literature of the Academy of Siences for many years, in 1982–92 he was a vice-president of the Academy of Sciences. One particular direction of Navumenka’s creative work was his pedagogical work as a professor of the chair of Belarusian literature of Belarusian State University.
In 1985-1990. MP and chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR.
