During the 1960s, Petr Shelokhonov worked as an actor and director at the Chekhov Drama Theatre in the city of Taganrog, Russia.
In 1967 he made his TV debut in Moscow appearing in the leading role as Unknown Soldier in the TV movie "Steps to the Sun".
