Thomas Borchert is a German musical theatre actor, singer, and songwriter.
Nowadays Thomas Borchert is regarded as one of the leading men in German musical theatre, best known for his roles in such musicals as “Jekyll & Hyde”, “The Phantom of the Opera” (in the 20th anniversary of the Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical), “Dance of the Vampires” (in Hamburg and Berlin premieres of Roman Polanski’s masterpiece) and Frank Wildhorn’s “Dracula”.
Background
Music has always been a great part of his life. He started playing the piano at the age of 4 and at 8 started taken professional piano lessons. By 12 he had already written his first songs and at the age of 13 he was regularly performing in one of the famous German music clubs.
As an actor Borchert is acknowledged and appreciated all around the world. The famous American composer Frank Wildhorn even presented him with the role of Edmond Dantes in "The Count of Monte Cristo" – the part was written specially for Borchert’s voice.
Education
At school Thomas Borchert organized his own rock band “Cakewalk”, which appeared to be very successful. In 1988 the band even won a prize of one of the German musical festivals.
Stage School of Music, Dance and Drama is one of the two musical schools of Hamburg, well-established in Germany. A great number of famous stage actors were among the students of the School.
Career
Besides being actively engaged into the very best classical musicals, Thomas Borchert is a rock-n-roll singer. Already in high school he had a roch band "Cakewalk", which was awarded a music prize in one of the music festivals of 1988. In 1994 an album "Die Buddy Holly Story" ("The Buddy Holly Story")was released in Frankfurt am Main by Sony Music Entertainment. His discography also includes "Mehr als jedes Wort" ("More than Any Words") (2000), "Ruthless Lovesongs" (2001), "Thomas' tierische Themen" (Thomas' Savage Themes") (2002), "Ein Sommernachtstraum" ("A Midsummer Night's Dream") (2003), "Borchert DeLuxe" (2004), "Strictly Musical", and "If I Sing" (2005).
Borchert takes part in numerous musical festivals, dedicated to musicals, and in tours of "Best of Musical" (i.e. 2006, 2007) or Wildhorn & Friends (i.e. 2011, 2015, 2016)
