ANTILL, John Macquarie was born on January 26, 1866. 2nd son of late John Macquarie Antill of Jarvistteld, Picton, N.S. Wales, and grandson of late Major Henry Colden Antill of 73rd Regiment (now 2nd Battalion Black Watch).

Studied at Sydney Grammar School.
Attached to Imperial troops, India, 1893-1894. Served chiefly in 2nd Corps M.I. Present at Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Poplar Grove, Driefontein, Bloemfontein, march on Johannesburg and Doom Kop and Pretoria, 4th June, Diamond Hills, Pursuit of De Wet from Bethlehem to Oliphant’s Nek, Relief of Elands River garrison (despatches several times).
Returned to New South Wales with contingent, January 1901. Returned S.A. March 1901. Retired C. W. Military Forces, 1906 (Queen’s medal, 7 clasps). Aide-de-camp to the Governor-General; commanded 1st Contingent New South Wales Mounted Rifles, South Africa; late Chief Instructor Australian Light Horse, Staff Commonwealth Military Forces.
