Joined His (or Her) Majesty 38th Regiment as 2nd Lieutenant 1880 Lieutenant 80th Regiment 1881. Captain, 1887; proceeded to New South Wales, 1888 (with local rank of Major). Raised and trained Mounted Rifles in the Colony.
Lieutenant-Colonel, 1894. Went to England with detachment Queen Victoria’s 60th Jubilee, 1897. Commanded the Colonial escort in the Queen’s procession.
Served Nile Expedition (medal with clasp, bronze star). South Africa in command of New South Wales Mounted Rifles, 1902 (despatches, medal and clasp, Companion of the Bath). Commander 2nd Australian Light Horse Brigade.
