Afterwards studied at Leipzig under Reinecke, and at Berlin under Kiel. Bachelor of Arts Cambridge Classical Tripos, 1874. Organ Scholar at Queens’ College Cambridge 1870-1872.
Organist of Trinity College Cambridge 1872-1893. Conductor of Cambridge University Musical Society, 1872-1893. Conductor ol Bach Choir, 1885 -1902.
Of the Leeds Philharmonic Society. Conductor of the Leeds Festival since 1901. Has produced operas in Germany (Hanover, Hamburg, Breslau, and Leipzig), and conducted concerts in Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris.
Honorary member of Royal Academy of Arts, Berlin, 1904. Of Maatschappij der Toonkunst, Amsterdam, 1906. Many works have been produced at the Festivals of Birmingham, Leeds, etc., and on the London stage, and at the Albert Hall, Richter Concerts, Crystal Palace, etc.
Professor of Music, Cainb. University; Professor of Composition and Orchestral Playing in the Royal College, of Music.
