GULEVICH, Vladimir was born on November 18, 1867 in Ryazan’.
Gulevich graduated in 1890 and received the degree of doctor of medicine in 1896 from the department of medicine of Moscow State University.
From 1896 associate professor, Medical Faculty, Moscow University. From 1899 professor, Khar’kov University. 1901-1933 professor and from 1907 head, Chair of Medical Chemistry and head
Chemical Laboratory, Moscow University. 1908-1929 simultaneously professor and head, Chair of Biological Chemistry, Moscow Higher Women's Courses (later 2nd Moscow Medical Institute). 1910-1933 professor and head, Chair of Organic Chemistry, Moscow Business Institute (later Plekhanov Institute of National Economy);from 1933 head, Biochemistry Section, All-Union Institute of Experimental Medical and head, Leningrad Laboratory of Physiology and Biochemistry of Animals, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
Chairman. Association of Sciences Research Institute, Physics and Mathematics Faculty, 1st Moscow State University. His doctor’s thesis O kholine i neyrone (Choline and Neuron) (1896) proved the absence of neurons in the brain and thus disproved Liebreich’s theory, which attributed a number of mental diseases to poisoning of the body by the accumulation of poisonous neurons in the brain. Studied organic nitrous animal extracts and the chemistry of proteins and amino acids.
Together with his associate discovered and analyzed five new amino acids: carnosin, anserin, carnitin, methylguanidin and creaton. These studies were the basis for comparative biochemistry and helped to solve some nutrition and endocrinology problems. Discovered new methods of synthesizing amino acids and thus obtained a number of new, hitherto unknown amino acids and various derivatives of already known amino acids.
Religion is bad because it stops people thinking in a rational and objective way.
Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.
