Taught at Moscow higher educational establishments. Trained many Soviet translators working from English. Laid down principles for reproducing in Russian the style and individual traits of 20th-century poets and prose writers.
These principles were implemented in Kashkin’s translations of Conrad, Stevenson, Hardy, Hemingway, Caldwell, et cetera Wrote about English and American writers Chaucer, Frost, Caldwell, Sandburg, Faulkner, et cetera Wrote works on theory of translating.
Wrote first Soviet studies of Hemingway. 1959 edited two-volume ed of Hemingway’s works.
