From 1915 associate professor, Moscow University. Helped to run Moscow Bolshevik newspaper “Nash put’ ”. After 1917 February Revol member, ed collegium, Bolshevik newspaper “Sotsial-demokrat”.
October 1918 resumed post at Moscow University. From 1921 dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Moscow University. Also professor, Institute of Red Professor, General Staff Academy and Socialist Academy.
1925 co-founder, Social of Marxist Historians and journal “Istorik-marksist”, of which he was exec ed from 1935. 1928 attended International Congress of Historians, Oslo. 1930 attended session of International Committee on Historical Sciences in Cambridge.
1932-1936 director, Institute of History, Communist Academy. 1932 and 1934 attended sossions of International Committee on Historical Sciences in the Hague and Paris. 1933 attended International Congress of Historians, Warsaw.
1936-1938 director Institute of History, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Specialized in modem European history with special reference to France (the French Revolution and Paris Commune of 1871) and Germany. Wrote first Soviet textbook on modem history for higher educational establishment.
1938 arrested by State Security organs.
