1895 moved to Khar’kov and worked as errand boy at a coffee-house and apprentice at a confectioner’son Then metal turner at plants in Khar’kov, Nikolayev, Sebastopol and Rostov-on-Don. 1901-1902 active in underground workers’ circles.
1903 arrested and exiled to Olonets Province for Social-Democratic activities. 1908-1911 in exile inVologda Province. 1914 sentenced to 12 months’ fortress arrest for publishing journal “Ogni".
1902 first work published. 1920 leading member, Kuznitsa (The Smithy) lit associate.
