1891-1896 worked as tradesman. 1896 began work at obukhov Plant in Saint St. Petersburg. Joined Marxist workers’ circle.
1903 moved to Odessa and joined “Iskra” group. 1913 returned to Saint St. Petersburg and became secretary, “Pravda”. 1914 arrested and exiled to Siberia.
April 1917 moved to Borovichi and became chairman, Borovichi Soviet. June 1917 beaten almost to death by an enraged mob for his Bolshevik activities. October 1917-1918 worked for People's Commissariat of Labor.
1918-1920 plcn, People's Commissariat of Food. 1918 organized expedtion along Volga and Kama to barter industry goods for grain with the Volga peasantry. 1920-1921 member, Revol Military Council, Turkestani Front.
1921-1922 plenipotentiary, Labor and Defense Council 1922 chairman, Irbit, then Nizhiniy Novgorod Market Committee. Chairman, All-Union Board of Trade. Then worked for Centr Council of Consumer Cooperatives.
