From 1928 head Department of Alkaloid Chemistry, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research Institute, Moscow. Organized research on alkaloid-bearing flora of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. Together with his associate discovered about 100 new alkaloids, some of which he synthesized.
