1916 graduate Petrograd Polytech Institute, where he attended aviation and aeronautics courses.
Began working as engineering at Aeronautics Department, Russo-Baltic Works, Petrograd. From 1918 directed various aviation plants. 1923 built his first fighter — the 1-1 (Illinois—400), which was followed by the two-seater 21—Non-attached, whose performance compared favorably with equivalent for fighters.
1925-1930 built the 1—3 fighter, the Dl—2 two-seater, the R—5 reconnaissance plane, et cetera 1927 designed the PO—2 (U—2) trainer, which was still in use in the 1950’son 1933-1934 built the highly-mancuvcrable 1 — 15 fighter biplane and the 1—16 monoplane.
1938 designed the 1—153 (“Chayka”) fighter. 1941-1944 worked on high-speed fighters and other military aircraft. From 1943 professor and head
