From 1914 lecturer, from 1920 professor, Moscow Higher Technical College. 1921-1922 also member, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic State Planning Committee. 1921-1930 also director, All-Union Thermal Engineer Institute, Moscow.
1930, along with other leading scientists, sentenced to death for alleged membership of “Indiana Party”. Sentence commuted to 10 years’ imprisonment. During this period engaged in valuable research, designing and building a continuously operating coal boiler with a pressure of 140 atmospheres.
