1896— 1910 intern, Staro-Yekaterininskaya Hospital, Moscow. From 1910 founder-head, Surgical Department, Soldatenkov (now S.P. Botkin) Hospital. Simultaneously lecturer, Shanyavskiy People’s University.
During World War 1 organized medical supplies for Moscow and League of Cities. Founded Therapeutic Prosthetic Institute and Prosthetics Plant. 1918-1920 head, Med Service, Russian Red Cross Social.
From 1919 consultant, Kremlin Sanitary Board. 24 April 1922 performed operation on Lenin at Botkin Hospital for a bullet wound received in assassination attempt. 1927 organized postgraduate surgery courses at Botkin Hospital.
From 1929 head. Surgical Department, Kremlin Hospital. 1929-1930 deputy Moscow City Soviet and member. Moscow Oblast Executive Committee.
From 1930 collegium member, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People’s Commissariat of Health. From 1931 head, Chair of Surgery, Centr Institute of Postgraduate Med Training. Founder-cd, journal “Sovremennaya khirurgiya”.
Member, ed bds, journals “Sovetskiy khirurg” and “Vestnik khirurgii i pogranichnykh oblastcy”. Member, editorial board, “Bol’shaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia) (1st ed). The 10th Department at Botkin Hospital now bears his name.
