After graduate studied architecture in Italy, France, England and Tunisia. Returned to Russia and began designing buildings. 1910 elected life member.
Council, Academy of Arts. From 1918 helped draft Moscow’s general reconstruction plan. 1922-1923 chief architect, All-Russian Agric Exhibition, Moscow.
1922-1929 chairman, Moscow Social of Architects. 1926-1929 director, Tret’yakov Gallery. From 1932 member, Committee for the Preservation of Rcvol, Artistic and Cultural Monuments.
From 1939 bd member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Architects’ Union. From 1946 director, Museum of Russian Architecture. Also taught architecture.
Professor, Higher Technical Art Institute.
Member, Academy of Arts from 1910. Member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Architecture from 1939. Member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences from 1943.
