1895 graduate Saint St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy.
After graduate intern, Ratimov’s Surgical Clinic, Saint St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy. 1898 defended doctor’s thesis on treatment of clubfoot. After touring clinics in England, Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland and United States of America and acquiring several years clinical experience, specialized in surgical anatomy and operating techniques.
From 1912 head, Chair of Operative Surgery and Topographical Anatomy, Saint St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy. From 1928 also head, Chair of Operative Surgery and Topographical Anatomy, Leningrad Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training. Member, lnt Social of Surgeons.
Honorary member, Pirogov Surgical Social, Leningrad. Member, Moscow, Khar'kov, Tashkent, Irkutsk and Leningrad Urological Social. Board member, All-Union Social of Surgeons.
Did major research on human anatomy on the basis of constitutional and age variations. Hypothesized that individual and age characteristics could be classified in a few groups and determined by external features (general habitus, anthropometric characteristics, etc). Trained numerous anatomists and surgeons, including P.A. Kupriyanov, Anugrah Narayan Maksimenkov, Sozon-Yaroshevich and Val’ker.
Wrote over 50 works.
