1919-1930 lecturer, from 1930 professor, Petrograd (Leningrad) Mining Institute. Simultaneously worked for Geological Committee (now All-Union Geological Research Institute). From 1924 member, from 1945 president, All-Union Mineralogical Social.
From 1945 also head, Ore Department, Institute of Geological Sciences, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Consultant, various government establishments in the ore-mining and mineral industry. Did research on ore deposits and ore-bearing regions in the Baykal and Transbaykal regions, the Northeastern Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics and the Maritime region.
Studied and described various iron, nonferrous and rare metal deposits. Contributed to the theory of ore-deposit formation.
