1897-1899 studied at Lesgaft Physical Training Teachers’ Courses, Saint St. Petersburg.
1894-1897 taught at school of Sysert Plant, Urals. 1899 took part in illegal Marxist circles in the Urals. 1904 elected member, Yekaterinburg Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Committee.
1906 elected member, Permanent Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Committee. 1906 deleg at 4th (Amalgamative) Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congress. Several times arrested and exiled.
1906-1908 under fortress arrest. 1915-1917 with Sverdlov in exile in Turukhansk Kray. From 1917 in Petrograd directed “Priboy” book publ house of Central Committee, Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks).
1918-1920 assistant secretary, Central Committee, Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and head of the Central Committee Secretariat. 1920-1925 worked for educational organs. 1925-1931 head, Children’s Literature Department and Textbooks Department, Association of State Publ Houses.
1941-1944 worked for Main Bad for the Protection of Military and State Secrets in the Press (Soviet censorship). 1918 member, All-Russian Central Executive Committee. From 1924 member, Moscow Soviet.
