1928-1935 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Demonstrated that fatty aldehydes may take part in the Cannizzaro reaction (Tishchenko-Cannizzaro reaction). Specialized in wood chemistry.
Composition of terpentine, soft resin and other wood products. Devised a new industry method of synthesizing camphor from terpentine. Developed a presciption for a new kind of chemical laboratory glassware.
Invented a new type of flask for washing and drying gases (Tishchenko flask). During World War 1 directed research on technol of synthesizing iodine from seaweed and techniques for producing chemically pure reagents.
