This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. THURSFIELD, James Richard was born on November 16, 1840 in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, United Kingdom. Youngest son of late Thomas Thurslield, Member Royal College of Surgeons.
Studied at Merchant Taylors’ School. Corpus Christi College, Oxford (scholar, 1859). 1st class Moderations (classical), 1861.
1st class I Classics 1863. Master of Arts.
Fellow of Jesus College, 1864 to 1881, Tutor, Dean, Librarian, and Lecturer. Classical Moderator (pass), 1870. Public Ex- ( aminer (classical honours), 1873.
Junior Proctor, 1875. Honorary Fellow of Jesus College, 1908. Is a writer on The Times, a contributor to: the Naval Annual, and has been an occasional contributor to the Quarterly, Westminster, and National Reviews, the Athenaeum, Academy, and Literature.
Has acted as correspondent of The Times during the naval manoeuvres since 1887. Is an Honourable Member of the R.U.S.I. and a Justice of the Peace for Company Hertfordshire. Journalist and author.
